A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a very popular Christmas story, with everyone from the Muppets to Bill Murray having their own take on the tale.

Now the performing arts students at Bow Valley High School will be putting on A Christmas Carol this year at the Cochrane RancheHouse.

Adrienne Fossheim is the drama instructor at Bow Valley and said she decided to do a one-act version of the play adapted from Dickens’ classic book.

“I wanted to take something on that was a really good story, a really rich piece,” said Fossheim. “I just love the script and love the story. It is so heartwarming and beautiful. It is the kind play that leaves you feeling all warm and cozy and ready for Christmas.”

Fossheim said that 40 performing arts students are involved in the production, from Grades 9 - 12. The Christmas play is typically performed at the school, according to Fossheim, but they thought the RancheHouse Theater would offer a better space for the production.

This year she said they have also chosen to incorporate dancers into the production and it has worked out very well.

“The students are doing amazing they are just so dedicated and they’re doing really great work onstage and offstage,” she said, adding that some students are helping out backstage as well.

Fossheim said there are endless reasons why it is important for students to be involved in the performing arts, but pointed out that it is part of being something more.

“They are taking their own individuality, their own creativity and bringing that to the show and on stage for everyone to see,” she said. “It is about ensemble and creativity and being part of something bigger.”

The play will take place Friday, Nov. 28 starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.
