After seven-plus months of campaigning, people have asked me to focus on our seniors, our youth, the Cochrane & Area Human Society, innovative literacy programs and doing more to help vulnerable women, children and families (which would include a women’s shelter, the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and are and low income housing). Community services also include the RCMP, ambulance and fire fighters. As a public servant, these will be my priorities.
I am a trained social worker and paramedic. I worked as an investigator for children’s services for over 10 years. I’ve seen what happens when community supports fail! I will never lose focus on the fundamentals of what makes Cochrane a community.
Council must always take a long term approach to planning; this is particularly important for social/community services. The lack of stable funding is a major contributing factor that can threaten the existence of and/or prevent the full benefits of social programs from being realized. Once elected I will request stable funding for all our core community services, with no increase to property taxes, and base future funding increases on population growth.
