The Town of Cochrane’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and the Volunteer Appreciation Committee are set kick off National Volunteer Week with some fun.

Volunteers are invited to the Community Volunteer Appreciation event at the Cochrane Movie House on April 9. Those in attendance have the choice of seeing one of three movies: Zootopia, Rave, or My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.

Starting at 9 a.m. and running until 1 p.m., the theme for the complimentary event coincides with the national theme, “volunteers are the roots of strong communities”.

It will feature live entertainment from the a cappella singing group HOJA, who will be donating their time that day.

Founded by new Cochrane resident Chris Martin, the group’s act is an entertaining presentation that features the singing of hit songs and talks about being a positive role model, reaching your goals, and having an impact on those around you.

The Cochrane Fun Van will also be in attendance to provide face painting. Tim Hortons and COBS Bread will provide complimentary drinks and scones respectively.

Special guests for the event include: Mayor Ivan Brooker and some of the town’s senior staff, Cochrane Lions Rodeo Royalty members, Katherine Topolniski with Volunteer Alberta, and Cinnamon Heart the FCSS mascot. Presentations and thank you speeches will take place in the foyer of the Cochrane Movie House.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, more than 100 door prizes will be up for grabs.

Those planning to attend are asked to pick up their complimentary tickets in advance at the FCSS building located at 209 2 Ave West.

Volunteer Week is April 10 to 16.
