Join the Town of Cochrane in celebrating the Cochrane Historic Ranche Site's 135th birthday on July 30.

Founded in May of 1881, the site is located off of Highway 1A east of the Highway 22 intersection.

In conjunction with the Cochrane Farmers' Market, the town is hosting a birthday celebration at the Ranche Site starting at noon and running until about 3:00 p.m. The market will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Rocky Mountain National Army Cadet Pipes & Drums will kick the event off with a live performance.

Attendees can then watch the Calgary Fiddlers perform live at 12:15 p.m. People can also enjoy traditional wagon rides sponsored by the Stockmen's Memorial Foundation, play a round of horse shoes, and take part in games and activities offered by the Cochrane Fun Van.

The Alberta Quilt Study Society will be doing hand-sewing demonstrations in the cabin located at the Ranche Site as well. The project is attempting to document quilts with an Alberta connection after being inspired by a similar project that started in Kentucky, United States, in 1981.

There will also be live demonstrations of hot shoeing done by a farrier with Big Hill Farriers on a horse in the corral. Hot shoeing is a step in the process of applying shoes to a horse.

There is parking available at the Cochrane Alliance Church at 902 Glenbow Drive or at the Cochrane RancheHouse at 101 RancheHouse Road. An ATM will be on the premesis for the Cochrane Farmers' Market.
