Changes on ACFC board

The Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane (ACFC) delivered a positive post-mortem of their Oct. 17 annual general meeting.

The Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane (ACFC) delivered a positive post-mortem of their Oct. 17 annual general meeting.

“We elected three new members to the board and both Ken (Hutchinson) and myself have stepped down,” revealed Janny Hutchinson, ACFC president for the last two years.

“You can’t hang on forever,” said Janny. “You need to have new blood to inspire change and ideas.”

Town liaison, Sandy Johnson, will maintain the role as acting president until the group elects a new president at their Nov. 14 meeting.

A hot topic of discussion included an overview of the highly successful Alberta Arts Days weekend celebration, which included the premier Cochrane Classic Car Show; all members agreed that the weekend, with the buzz of art, food and entertainment that spanned Cochrane’s downtown, was a hit.

Also on the agenda was talk about wanting to push ahead with the proposed Cochrane Arts Centre that the ACFC has been backing since conception.

“We don’t want the arts centre to fall off the agenda,” explained Janny. “We want it so that wherever the facility is built, the entire area becomes a centre for culture, as well.”

Returning members include: Cathy Chan, Sarah Drew, Al Lyon, Murray Mitchell, Jola Muran and Ruth Soroka. New board members are Colleen McCrea, John White and Emma Johnson; arts centre liaison is Brian Fitzgerald.

With respect to the Dec. 1-2 art show at the Cochrane RancheHouse, ACFC is currently looking for visual and performing artists to participate; contact Johnson at [email protected] for more.
