The Chinook Film Group will be wrapping up their spring session April 17, with the showing of Canadian film, Still Mine, at the Cochrane Movie House.

Directed by Michael McGowan, the film was released at the Toronto International Film Festival under the title Still.

“I chose it based on a suggestion,” said Murray Mitchell, spokesperson for the film aficionado group. “So, I’ll be seeing it and enjoying it with the rest of the audience.

“We haven’t been able to preview it, so we’re largely relying on the director and the great cast.”

The film tells the story of an elderly couple from St. Martins, a rural town in New Brunswick. Academy Award nominee James Cromwell (L.A. Confidential, The Artist) plays Craig Morrison, a farmer who sets out to build a new, suitable home for his ailing wife, played by Academy Award nominee Genevieve Bujold (Anne of the Thousand Days, Coma). It’s no easy feat, as Morrison fights age, weather and authorities to construct this home.

A love story, the film captures the man’s dedication to his wife, as well as the struggle he faces as a traditional man fighting back against modern times.

Cromwell received a Canadian Screen Award in the category of Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Morrison.

“It’s a Canadian filmmaker and a Canadian actress,” said Mitchell. “And a Canadian film is such a great way to end our season.”

The film group will start back up again the third Wednesday in September. At that time, Mitchell said moviegoers can expect a selection of films from the summer’s film circuit.

Tickets to see Still Mine are $10 and can be purchased from Java Jamboree and Video Experts.
