Get out and celebrate the spirit of the season and get in some early holiday shopping at the 23rd annual Redwood Meadows Christmas Crafts Sale.

The event will be held Nov. 15-16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Redwood House (Nov. 14 from 6-9 p.m. there will be a preview), and co-organizer Faith McLean said there would be many unique, handmade and local items for sale, including beautiful leather masks and whimsical scarves and purses.

“We also have new vendors who make everything from cool kaleidoscopes, to personalized jewelry, to gorgeous pottery,” she said. “Shop this fun sale and support local and small businesses at the same time.”

The sale also has food vendors whose mouth-watering wares include apples, oil and vinegar and decadent toffee.

McLean said shoppers and vendors come to Redwood Meadows from all over Alberta to share in the spirit of the season at this community-supported weekend event.

“Many shoppers come every year to stock up on their favorites, and to see what new surprises await,” said McLean. “The sale provides them with an escape from the mad rush of holiday mall shopping.”

“With just a short drive from Calgary, you can get away from it all and really embrace the spirit of the season,” she said. “Come out to relax and shop among the evergreens in the foothills.”

All of the sale’s profits stay in the community and support area events and programs.

On Saturday and Sunday, the concession, open from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., will serve pumpkin and chicken noodle soups, vegetarian and meat chili, wraps and home-baked goods.

This year, the concession will be run by a group of Redwood Meadows residents who are raising funds for the Right to Play organization.

“All of the concession money will go towards this charity,” said McLean, “which uses play to educate and empower children and youth to overcome the effects of poverty, conflict and disease in disadvantaged communities.”

“This craft fair allows you to feel good about the gifts you are buying for your family,” McLean added. “These quality presents can become family heirlooms and are truly gifts from the heart.”

“These days, it is difficult to find gifts like that,” she added. “From your mother to your coworker, there will be something here for everyone on your list.”

Admission to the sale is free.
