Artists helping artists.

That’s the motto behind the Bragg Creek Artisans Association — a group more than three decades young and still going strong.

This weekend marks the 36th annual Bragg Creek Artisan Christmas Sale — an exhibition that will be held at the Bragg Creek Community Centre on Nov. 17-18 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

“This is the big show and sale we hold every year,” said artisan Pamela Rodger.

“Our mandate is to encourage all people who aren’t experienced in arts and crafts to develop, create, to find enjoyment, and as legacy the older artisan members act as teachers and guides.”

The money raised from the annual event gets put directly back into the pool — assisting the club with their monthly ‘medium workshops’.

Rodger explained that the group, who meets once a month, has the opportunity to take part in monthly workshops that focus on a different medium; professionals are brought in as guest instructors and all members artists can attend and participate for free, as well as bring a guest for no additional charge.

The workshops are funded through the annual show and sale, as well as educational grant monies donated by Rocky View County.

An estimated 40-50 member artisans will have their works on display.

A range of artwork, including crafts, paintings, small works, Christmas cards and decorations, woodwork, knits, hats, purses, preserves, jams and jellies will all be available for purchase.

The only requirements are that all works on display are handmade and created by member artisans.

“All of our members are residents from the rural areas surrounding Bragg Creek,” said Rodger.

Rodger, who has been a member for 27 years, is donating a handmade mosaic table as this year’s door prize.
