Cochrane’s COBS Bread is still looking for potential charities to participate in its donation program.

Bakery manager Kynton Wong said the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank turned down their request to become a partner in the bakery’s ‘End of Day Giving’ initiative.

Anita McFeeters, the food bank’s coordinator, said they already receive on average 50 to 60 loaves weekly from Save-On-Foods and Guy’s Cafe and Bakery. She added that unfortunately they don’t have space to keep more bread.

However, McFeeters said she did contacted Glenbow Elementary School to get in touch with COBS about the program.

COBS regional director Shane Paterson said they are in the process of working with the school to provide bread to students in need.

Paterson said they’re still looking at other charities as well. “We’re keen to work with anyone who will take the support we offer,” he added.

According to Wong, COBS has a specific contract outlining criteria for selecting where they donate. The organization cannot resell the donated bread and have to give it to people in need within 24 hours. The amount COBS donates can reach up to $1,000 in value, or “eight to 10 garbage bags full,” Wong said.
