The Cochrane Legion will once again will be hosting the Remembrance Day ceremony in Cochrane Nov. 11.

Steve Jordan is first vice-president of the Legion in Cochrane and is the chairperson of the poppy campaign for 2014. He said that services will start at 10 a.m. at Cochrane High School and will last until 10:30 a.m. There will be a number of speakers at the school including Pastor Bryn Thiessen from the Cowboy Trail Church and the church will also have a few singers performing selected songs. Jack Tennant will be emceeing again this year and the Cochrane Pipe Band will also be playing at the ceremony.

From there, Jordan said a procession would march down to the cenotaph beside the Legion. There would be an official wreath laying from 11 – 11:30 a.m. and then the public is invited to lay a wreath as well.

After the service he said people could return to the Legion for a light lunch.

Jordan said he expected there would be a large turnout this year and that he was nearly sold out of wreaths for the ceremony.

Jordan explained that all of the money that is donated to the poppy campaign goes towards helping veterans and their children. He said they donate to places like the Big Hill Lodge, Bethany Care Centre and the Evergreen Manor every year with the money they raise.

“We usually raise around $20,000 to $25,000 a year in our little town here. It is a very good response,” said Jordan.

There will also be a ceremony at the Bragg Creek Community Centre beginning at 10:30 a.m.
