Cochrane blues band, The Smoking Aces, will be reclaiming the Legacy Guitar and Coffee House stage June 14 at 8 p.m.

On the brink of releasing a live album, Live in Cowtown, the local Chicago blues-fused four piece is looking forward to showcasing their coming release.

“We’re hoping to have some copies available at Legacy, but the official launch will be on Canada Day,” explained bassist, singer/songwriter, John White, who is pleased with the fresh, off-the-floor recording that features five originals and five carefully selected cover tracks.

Fans of the band who can’t make the Legacy show will be able to catch them opening up July 1 at the 15th annual Canada Day Family Concert; the event will be held at Mitford Park featuring Hey Romeo and headliner High Valley.

White said the addition of guitarist Dave MacRae to the mix, as well as keyboardist Barry Valgardson, has changed the sound of the band — the mellow tones of the Hammond B3 organ and Fender guitar have opened up dynamics for the band, extending their set list to a broader crowd appeal.

“We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it,” said White, adding that the band is looking to record a 10-track studio for a 2015 release.
