The Cochrane Christian Academy took to the great outdoors recently to bond, learn and grow in their faith.

The students attended Alberta Pioneer Camp, which is located outside of Sundre, Alta., and is operated by Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. The school took 65 students on a two-day overnight excursion.

Amanda Klager, a teacher with the school, said the camp provided the opportunity for students to learn in a different setting and build relationships with children in other grades.

“It has great outdoor spaces but it also has good facilities so rain or shine you have a good experience when you go,” Klager said.

The camp has archery, a climbing wall, co-operative games, and much more. It also provides access to horses that the students could interact with and ride.

Klager said the school also provided its own faith-based programming to supplement what the camp offers. This is the fifth year the Cochrane Christian Academy has attended this field trip and the school has no plans of stopping.

The theme for camp this year was “Carry Your World” and taught the children about living out their faith throughout their everyday life.

“It’s really just part of our culture and a way to get the students out of the school so we can see them in a new light,” said Jackie Root, vice-principal at the school.

Klager explained the school is lucky to be able to book in with the camp at this time of year as it is a popular field trip destination. The school is even considering booking the trip for the fall so students connect earlier on in the school year.
