Year six for the Cochrane Fair is just around the corner, with organizers excited for another weekend jam-packed with events Aug. 17-19. “We started the fair to be consistent with our mandate as the Ag Society – to bridge rural and urban,” said fair committee chair Isabel Gimber, adding the fair continues to grow by leaps and bounds each year with a bevy of interactive and hands-on offerings. From the midway to food trucks, Extreme Cowboy to the Old Tyme Bench Show, kids zone to the marketplace and every farm animal imaginable, there is no shortage of sights to see or events to try. Adults pay $10 to get in and kids five and under are free; advance tickets are $7.50 at cochranefair.com. New this year is the Foothills Bucking Horse Futurity, a reptile show throughout the weekend (snake selfies welcomed), a family Frisbee workshop with six-time Guinness World Record champ Rob “Frisbee” McLeod and a farm and ATV safety day all day on Aug. 18. Gimbel said the safety day is “highly interactive” with four running ATVs on site, fire extinguisher workshops and all-ages chances to learn about farm and quad safety. The first 100 people to turn up to the 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. event will earn a $5 food voucher. For businesses looking to sponsor or volunteer, opportunities are still available. “Once again, the local sponsorship has been overwhelming for the events ... it costs a lot of money to bring an event together like this.” To learn more about the various events or to pre-register for free mutton busting spanning the weekend, visit cochranefair.com.
