The Cochrane Historical & Archival Preservation Society (CHAPS) is pleased to report its most recent project – the relocation of the “old hospital” to the Cochrane Ranche – is an overwhelming success.

Restored to its former glory and reopened as the Cochrane Historical Museum, CHAPS estimates over 3,000 people toured the “old hospital” last summer.

This very ambitious project required time, talent, and dedication of so many people. CHAPS wishes to extend a large thank you to those who contributed.

The museum opened May 31, 2015, and was staffed with enthusiastic volunteers who guided tours and educated tourists. CHAPS would also like to extend a big thank you to those volunteers, who made this important project possible. The society plans to change many of the previous exhibits featured in the “old hospital” in time for its reopening in May 2016. It hopes this will generate new interest and enjoyment for those who previously toured it.

The museum is free to tour and officials gladly accept any donations museum visitors can offer. CHAPS will continue to fundraise, with more than $40,000 having been donated so far to this initiative. The proceeds will go directly to enhancing the value of the museum to the community. The society hopes it will be able to employ a student and part-time curator next summer, rather than relying solely on volunteers.

CHAPS also intends to recognize all donors on a permanent basis within the museum. More information about the 2016 opening date of the Cochrane Historical Museum will be coming in the near future.
