Cochrane in Brief
COVID-19 case reported at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre

A positive case has been confirmed at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. According to a newsletter emailed out from the facility, an individual that attended the facility on Nov. 13 began showing symptoms on Nov. 14, and tested positive on Nov. 17. The individual has been in isolation since their test results came back. The individual frequently uses the curling arena at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre, and the newsletter indicates that fellow users of that facility should be monitoring their own health and conducting their own assessments. The newsletter indicates that the curling arena is one of the areas in the facility that has seen enhancing cleaning and safety protocols in place since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stockmen’s online auction sees success

The Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation wrapped up their first-ever To-Go Dinner and Online Auction on Nov. 7, and the event was considered a resounding success. The Foundation sold 211 to-go dinners to its supporters and another 122 to-go dinners were purchased and donated to those who were chosen in the spirit of western hospitality. The recipients of the dinners were selected by the Cochrane Activettes, who also coordinated the distribution of the meals. There were 77 items auctioned off during the online auction. The Foundation raised over $33,000 to go toward honouring and teaching people about the vibrant history of the livestock industry in Alberta.

Town releases COVID-19 recovery survey

The Town of Cochrane’s Social Recovery Task Force has released a second COVID-19 Recovery Survey to further understand how COVID-19 has affected the community and its residents, and how things have changed since the first survey was released. The first survey was released in June, and the results from that were used to develop programs to help with Cochrane’s recovery. This survey’s results will help the Town and local agencies support vulnerable and at-risk populations by identifying and issues facing those populations.
