The Cochrane & Area Events Society has planning well under way for the upcoming Cochrane Labour Day Parade on Sept. 5.
The parade form-up will take place at 10:30 a.m. that day at the Burnco Site on River Avenue. Starting at the corner of Griffin Road and River Avenue, the parade will run reverse to last year’s route.
“The parade will start down on Griffin Road, come up on Centre Street, go west on Railway Street, go up on Fifth Avenue, then east on First Street down to River Avenue where it will head south to Griffin again,” said Marina Chabbert, the parade chair.
Chabbert said this year the parade has more than 50 floats registered. The society is also still accepting float applications for anyone interested in participating in this year’s parade.
“We just need them to register and if they want to have horses they need to have equine insurance to accompany their registration. Under the rules and regulations on our website we have a length and width maximum but we never have any issues with that,” Chabbert said.
Chabbert said people are not allowed to throw candy from the floats but are encouraged to walk alongside their float and to hand it out if they choose. People are encouraged to set out lawn chairs alongside the parade route as their will be entertainment before the parade starts on all major streets.
The Cochrane Activettes will also be hosting a pancake breakfast at the Cochrane Ford in advance of the parade. Organizers anticipate the festivities will end around 12:30 p.m.
