Cochrane's new radio station, Air 91.5 FM will be hitting the air waves on Oct. 24.

It will be operating under the umbrella and sharing the same radio signal with Airdrie's 106.1 FM, and was given the go-ahead by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to receive official radio status back in December of 2018.

Country radio station 91.5 FM will be allowed to broadcast to Cochrane and surrounding areas, including Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows, Springbank, Bearspaw and Water Valley.

"Golden West (Broadcasting) is pleased to announce the launch of 91.5 FM - Cochrane's very own country radio station," said Carter Friesen, Golden West VP.

"As one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, Cochrane is very deserving of their own radio station. This will be a terrific resource for Cochrane and the surrounding area."

The station will be supported by Cochrane Now, the company's online platform - just as Discover Airdrie is the online platform to 106.1 FM.

Cochrane Now will be hosting a free launch party on the 24th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lion's Event Centre. There will be hot dogs, cake and a spin the wheel for prizes, a Juno and CCMA award winning band and a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas including airfare, hotel and concert tickets.
