Cochrane Relay For Life cancelled due to low enrollment and volunteers

The Cochrane Relay For Life event, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, has been cancelled this year due to a lack of volunteers and participants.

The event — which was slated to once again take place overnight, beginning on June 7 at the Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) Family Sports Centre — raised around $30,000 last year for cancer research, support services and advocacy.

Cochranites are encouraged to participate in the Calgary Relay For Life event on June 21 at the Calgary Rotary Challenger Park.

In 2013, Relay For Life raised $46.5 million across Canada to fight cancer.

“The individuals who stepped up to volunteer and participate at Relay deserve an enormous thank you for all their dedication to the event and the fight against cancer,” said Caitlin Herrick, revenue department with the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/N.W.T. Division.
