The town will have its first ever Doors Open Cochrane Sep. 26 and 27 in conjunction with Alberta Culture Days.

The public will be granted access to municipal government and local business sites for tours, events and insider information sessions.

“We think it will help people feel connected to what the town does,” said Laurie Drukier, senior communications advisor with the Town of Cochrane.

Drukier is organizing the municipal departmental involvement, while Mike Korman, manager of economic development for the town, is helping to recruit local businesses.

Drukier said the event is going to be a great way for the community to interact with town staff and increase positive relationships. While Korman pointed out that the event would promote local business.

He said it was important for people to continue to look locally for their shopping needs, and this event may help heighten that awareness.

Drukier and Korman have met with organizers of Doors Open Calgary – a similar program in the city that has been running for three years with much success.

According to Drukier, Calgary organizers said the city staff enjoyed the experience and the feedback from the community was nothing but positive.

Businesses, cultural and faith groups and tourist attractions that are interested in participating can contact Cochrane Economic Development no later than July 31 to be included in advertising.

The website cochrane.ca/doorsopen and the Town of Cochrane’s social media pages will have updates leading up to the event.

Drukier said there would be an official map available at the beginning of September with details of who is involved and where to go.
