It was a dunkin’ good time last weekend at the community celebration of the recently unveiled Jayman BUILT Aquatic Centre and Phillips Curling Centre at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC).
Mayor Ivan Brooker was joined by fellow councillors in the dunk tank, as were local business owners, RCMP and firefighters and even the Cochrane Eagle’s own editor, Chris Puglia – where community members could purchase balls and aim to splash the dunkees du jour, with all money going toward the Rock The Waves fundraising campaign for the facility.
“This is the reason why people move to Cochrane ... it’s a facility for all of us,” said Brooker, who addressed the crowd along with a handful of sponsors, politicians, SLSFSC general manager Robin Mitchell and emcee marathon man Martin Parnell.
“Seven years ago we had 250 members, (this) July 2,400 and today 2,800 members,” said Mitchell.
More than 3,000 people visited the facility last weekend and the fundraising event raised nearly $2,000.
