Bus stops here

Cochrane will be a park and ride location this summer, along the transit route connecting Banff and Calgary, as part of the Canada 150 ON IT pilot project.

The 12-week pilot, starting June with fees to be announced, is the work of the Calgary Regional Partnership (CRP) and Parks Canada - efforts to reduce traffic congestion in the corridor.

The old town hall site has been identified as a potential park-and-ride location. There will be no associated costs to Cochrane for the transit project - which is being funded by Banff and Parks Canada, primarily marketed through the CRP, according to Mayor Ivan Brooker.

“There are a lot of exciting reasons to visit Cochrane this summer. Our special events and Historic Downtown are always a draw,” said Hillary Richardson, executive director of the Cochrane Tourism Association.

Cochrane recently gave the green light to a grant-funded regional transit feasibility study.

Lionesses give back

The Cochrane Pregnancy Care Centre received $500 from the Cochrane Lioness Club earlier this year to help go towards operating costs and delivering programs to the clients.

In 2016 the centre welcomed 37 new clients and had more than 200 clients visits.

“We are both grateful and excited about this new partnership with the Cochrane Lionesses,” said Laurel Pedersen, the centre’s executive director.

Centre staff said the centre is getting consistently busier as more clients access the Pregnancy Care Centre “during their times of need.”

Census Reminder

The Town of Cochrane is reminding residents to take a few moments and answer the online census at cochrane.ca. To date, 47.6 per cent of households have done so.

“Each person we can accurately count equals $90 in operating grants and $239 in capital grants from the province for a total of $329 per person,” explained Julie Haskill with the communications team for the town.

The deadline is April 30.

Vote for mom sale funds

The annual Mom to Mom sale will benefit three local projects this year.

Hosted by the Cochrane Lioness Club at the Spray Lake Sawmills Sports Centre, the sale will feature a variety of gently used toys, books, baby gear, all age children’s clothing, maternity wear and summer goods with the proceeds going toward the Cenotaph Project, the Ronald McDonald House and the Fireside playground.

Residents will be able to choose where funds go with a voting poll on the group’s Facebook page.
