Council voted that a project regarding the installation of a second elevator at the Spray Lake Sawmill Family Sports Centre be presented during the 2016/2017 budget process and to begin discussions with Rocky View County and the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre’s board to assess the project’s feasibility. The decision was passed unanimously.

Cochrane town council heard presentations from Ken Hutchinson and Amelia Mount, vice-president of Seniors on the Bow of Cochrane and Area Society, requesting funding for a second elevator in the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre in the next budget.

Both presentations outlined that a second elevator was necessary for seniors as the existing one is too far from the Seniors on the Bow Centre. They also said that aside from seniors, people with disabilities or small children would also benefit from having a more accessible elevator.

Town administration received an estimate of $150,000 to $250,000 for the installation of a second elevator. The society pledged $25,000 toward this project.

Council passed the second reading of Bylaw 19/2016, which would amend the Land Use Bylaw in order to accommodate solar systems and small wind turbines within town limits.

An amendment was made to the bylaw before the passing of the reading stating that ground and pole-mounted solar systems are discretionary within all districts rather than discretionary in low-density areas and permitted in high-density areas.

Council voted to extend the deadline for amendments to the Waste Management Bylaw from June 2016 to Sept. 26.

The amendments would facilitate the Residential Organic Waste Diversion Strategy. Administration updated council stating it is currently completing the engagement process for the program with residents, evaluating opportunities and challenges, and finalizing cost analysis and contracts.

Administration stated it plans to use upcoming Farmers’ Markets, Historic Downtown Night Markets, and other town events to engage the community about the program.
