The eighth annual Monumental Tournament of Aces at The Links of GlenEagles Oct. 3 is almost here, with just a few spots left for interested golfers.

Founder Kelly Kimmett of the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation said they’re just short of filling up the maximum 180, with less than 30 spots still available.

Potentially new this year is an additional game, but Kimmett said organizers are still working on what that would be. “That one could be a surprise or worked on more for next year.”

He noted that the “Don’t Break the Windows” game had a bit of an unfortunate ending in the tournament last year from the large wind that came up.

“We’re currently working on getting back into playable shape.”

He said with the money raised by golfers and corporate donors so far, they’ve almost reached $60,000, with the goal being between $80,000 and $100,000.

New vendors like Mehtab East Indian Cuisine restaurant and Save-On Foods will be on hand providing food alongside the traditional businesses like Big Hill Pizza and Guy’s Bakery.

This year, the tournament will be supporting the warm water therapy pool project at the new aquatic/curling facility, which is currently being constructed next to the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

The Tournament of Aces raised $138,000 last year for the Dr. Lindsay Kimmett Rotary Club of Cochrane Ultrasound Clinic, which is on hold awaiting approval from Alberta Health Services for staffing.

The cost to register for the event ranges from $150 for a single golfer with dinner, up to a group of four for $600 with dinner; an extra dinner can be purchased for $50.
