Difficult times

Hail came down in sheets, said the staff at the Alberta Institution for Wildlife Conservation.

Hail came down in sheets, said the staff at the Alberta Institution for Wildlife Conservation.

The golf ball-size hail caused more than a little damage, smashing transport kennels, roofing on the outdoor animal run and massive damage to the vinyl siding of the building and to vehicles of multiple volunteer staff. The institute is a not-for-profit organization and said they are having trouble dealing, not only with the insurance deductible, but the massive amounts of injured animals coming in with broken wings and other bones due to the unusually-sized hail.

At this point, they’ve had to euthanize a number of birds that could not be rehabilitated and they are taking in many more that will need extensive rehab. To donate to their cause, call 403-946-2361 for more information.
