Dog park advocates bite back, town seeks public feedback on design

Town administration will be seeking public input into the draft design of the future dog park until June 1.

Town administration will be seeking public input into the draft design of the future dog park until June 1.

The new site is located south of Quigley Drive and is roughly three acres smaller than the first proposed site that was situated farther north.

Council rescinded the first site following backlash from some West Valley residents who opposed their properties backing onto an off-leash area. They feared devaluation of property and traffic congestion to their mounting concerns.

Members of the Dog Park Advocacy Group Cochrane are biting back and continue to gather signatures for their petition against the council decision – to be included as part of their presentation in their June 12 presentation to council.

Group spokesperson Jim Uffelmann has a laundry list of concerns with the new site design including the multi-user aspect of the pathway system; the limited parking; the proximity to nearby restaurants; the potential access impact due to future highway twinning; and the overall size.

Uffelmann said the park is “inferior in many aspects” to the first design and that the whole debacle is symbolic of the “utter incompetency of these councillors.”
