Donations help ease heavy load of cost of school supplies

Cochrane’s annual Back Pack Program is looking for donations to help disadvantaged families.

Cochrane’s annual Back Pack Program is looking for donations to help disadvantaged families. This is the eighth year Western Rocky View Family and Community Resource Centre has offered the school supplies service to area families in need, and co-ordinator Annmarie Tocher said demand has increased as each new season begins.

Last year, the program helped 215 students, up from 180 in 2015. It costs about $60 to fill one backpack.

Donations are now being collected at the FCSS office at 209 2nd Ave. West or at Staples in The Quarry.

To enroll children from kindergarten to Grade 12 call FCSS at (403) 851-2250 for qualification details. Registration will remain open until Sept. 8.
