Cochrane is once again rallying its support, this time for the 11 families forced out of their homes that were damaged during a townhome blaze in the Fireside neighbourhood last week. “The donations are coming in slowly but myself and Meghan Klassen are working tirelessly to reach out to our Cochrane community to accept donations for all 11 families affected,” said Brittni Wilson, one of the Fireside residents who has spearheaded the donation collection. So far volunteers have collected clothing and gift cards as well as raised $900 from a pancake breakfast held last weekend. Wilson said she’s hoping to get local stores including Safeway, Save on Foods and Canadian Tire on board. “We will accept any kind of business offers or anything like that to include in our care packages,” she said. “Now that the road has opened, it has become more apparent the true extent of damage to surrounding homes. As such, we would like to help out all of the 11 homes that have received quite a bit of damage.” The group of volunteers are hoping to distribute all the funds and donations to the families by this weekend. “We want to thank everyone for their support and generous donations so far for helping the victims of last week’s fire, including the pancake breakfast put on by some of the wonderful neighbours in our community,” Wilson said. If you have any donations or business services (please provide business cards/details), they can be dropped off at either 123 Fireside Crescent or 189 Fireside Place.
