Downtown businesses have recently rallied together to make sure their voices are heard for the need for public washrooms.

“All we want for Christmas is public washrooms in Historic Downtown,” read posters spread across downtown Cochrane.

Downtown businesses are frustrated with the lack of public necessities in the downtown core and are encouraging locals to email members of council to “tell ‘em you can’t hold it any more.”

The discussion was brought up at the Dec. 14 council meeting during the debate on the town’s Quarry area.

During the discussion of what the Quarry needs to look like in the future, Coun. Tara McFadden and Coun. Gaynor Levisky brought up the need for public washrooms for Cochrane’s historic downtown.

“We need to get bathrooms in there,” Levisky commented.

The Heavenly Outhouse, Poor David’s, Kitchen Boutique, Legacy Guitar and Coffee House, Global Pet Foods, Texas Gate, Home Quarter Mercantile and Spirit of Oneness are listed on the poster as supporting businesses.

“Thank you to our council for their dedication and passion – they make Cochrane a great place to be! Now let’s make it a great place to pee,” the poster slogan reads.

Councillors mentioned at the meeting that there needs to be future discussion concerning bringing public washrooms to Cochrane.
