The driver who dragged a Cochrane RCMP officer assisting in a traffic stop has been charged.

Cody Brown, 30, from Calgary received seven charges on Thursday, five days after dragging the officer.

Last Saturday, Cochrane RCMP were called to assist a sheriff with the Integrated Traffic Unit, who had stopped a suspicious vehicle on Quigley Drive and Highway 22.

The sheriff was attempting to make an arrest when the suspect drove the truck forward, hitting the Cochrane RCMP officer and dragging the officer on the road. The RCMP attempted a short pursuit of the truck but lost the vehicle once it entered the city limits.

Brown’s charges include assault on a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, possession of property obtained by a crime and two charges under the traffic safety act.

Cochrane RCMP General Investigation Section arrested the suspect outside of Calgary on Thursday after an investigation with help from Strathmore RCMP.

The RCMP officer involved sustained minor injuries including a minor concussion and is currently off duty recovering from his injuries.

Brown is currently in custody, expected to appear in court in Cochrane later in May.
