Ducks Unlimited (DU) Canada is inviting people to come out for a good time and a good cause at the Cochrane RancheHouse for its fundraising banquet.

The event takes place March 21 with cocktails at 5 p.m., a catered buffet at 6:30 p.m., silent and live auctions, raffles, special draws and giveaways throughout the night.

“If you love the outdoors and want to have a fun social evening while supporting a good cause, mark your calendars and buy your tickets,” said banquet chair Rick Murray.

DU Canada is a ‘national, private, non-profit organization that has been committed to wetland conservation for 76 years.’ Murray explained that DU Canada ‘conserves wetlands and their associated habitat for waterfowl, other wildlife and people.’

The reason Murray said he decided to get involved was because he believes wetland conservation is ‘critical in sustaining a healthy environment’ and he believes functions such as the DU banquet are an ‘important part of what it takes to build a strong sense of community.’

“For me, the Ducks Unlimited wetland conservation mandate is pretty easy to get on board with. The banquet provides a local event that allows those individuals and businesses interested in habitat conservation a way of getting involved with a number of support levels, whether as a dinner guest, sponsor, donor, or volunteer. We need them all,” he said.

Murray said there would be a wide range of auction items, such as ‘wildlife prints by well-known Canadian artists, all types of gear for the outdoor enthusiast, sculptures and items donated from local businesses.’

He said that proceeds from the annual banquet and auction stay in Alberta and go towards supporting the organization’s efforts to conserve wetlands through habitat conservation, scientific research and public education projects.

“Approximately 600 species of plants, animals and insects depend upon wetlands – they are one of the most productive ecosystems on Earth. Loss of wetland habitat is a huge threat,” Murray said.

Tickets are $75 per person or $600 for a reserved table of eight. For tickets contact Murray at 403-816-3787 or [email protected] or Tanya at 403-619-7636. For more information on DU Canada visit ducks.ca.
