The Cochrane Eagle debuted a brand new website this past week with plenty of new features to keep you up to date on all the news, sports, community events and entertainment in Cochrane.

The home page is what has undergone the biggest makeover with a lot of new visual features and user-friendly options to get all of your local news. The top banner now features the top four stories of the week that rotate slideshow-style allowing you to see all of our top stories at once and choose which you want to read first.

Also expanding is the menu bar, which now has the ‘entertainment’ category added to it. The entertainment section always keeps you up to date on the latest music and arts coming to the area.

The gallery section found at the bottom of the page not only has the latest gallery, but also galleries from the past few weeks. When viewing the photos the gallery has been changed to ‘blog’ style, where the photos are much larger than before.

In the sidebar section that lists the ‘most read’ articles, you are now able to see just exactly how many people have viewed the top stories, and this information is updated daily.

There is also an editorial section found under the ‘opinion’ option on the top menu. You can go directly to our weekly editorial, that each week delivers the issues that are important to Cochrane and area. There is also an option included right by the editorial online where you can easily write a letter to the editor in response to the editorial.

Another new feature will allow you to say ‘hello’ to the editorial staff when you see them out covering the community, as photos are now placed beside each editorial staff member in the ‘contact’ section.

The home page now has the Eagle’s live social media feed, giving you the latest updates from the Facebook and twitter feeds. These outlets allow for the Eagle to release breaking news updates in Cochrane with everything from weather advisories to traffic accidents to on the scene photos at important local events. Follow the Eagle online a facebook.com/cochraneeagle or on twitter @cochraneeagle.
