Edmonton comic tells it like it is at Hideout Pub this weekend

The Hideout Pub is hitting the funny button one Saturday a month for as long as Cochrane wants to keep laughing. That Saturday for the month of May falls on May 17.

The Hideout Pub is hitting the funny button one Saturday a month for as long as Cochrane wants to keep laughing.

That Saturday for the month of May falls on May 17.

And the guy to get the crowd going will be Edmontonian Ben Proulx, followed by 28-year veteran comic, Mike Dambra.

Described by comedy booking agent and stand-up comic, Cory Harding of Buckets of Chuckles, as “an up and coming comic with a bag of surprises”.

For the last few years, Proulx has managed to eek out a living as a stand-up comic, sacrificing luxury for the sweet sounds of scrapping hecklers.

“It was somewhere in Saskatchewan…” laughed Proulx, who watched a pair of hecklers turn to fists with one another after he egged them on, left to pause mid-act while tables began to fly.

“You can’t stand up there and not acknowledge it’s happening.”

From his “small, crappy apartment where I do all my crying” just outside of Edmonton, Proulx has been making people laugh all the way to Vegas and back with his “fresh and honest take” on comedy.

“I like to give my own opinions, to tell my own stories,” said Proulx, adding that even if he delivers a line that strikes the wrong chord with an audience member, it’s all part of his ‘tell it like it is’ style.

Last year saw Proulx featured on CBC’s Culture Secrets, following a 2012 naming as Edmonton’s Best Comedian by Vue Weekly.
