The Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS) recently announced that a familiar face from the community would be taking on the role as its new fund development officer – former Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) director Brooks Tower.

Tower founded CAES in February of 2009 and over the years put on events such as the Cochrane Labour Day Parade, SummerFest and WinterFest.

He announced in early October he was stepping down as director of the non-profit group CAES in order to take time for his family and the possibility of new pursuits. One of these new pursuits is with the Humane Society.

“I’m just so happy to be working with this group. I feel fortunate to be with the Humane Society,” said Tower.

Tower said his role would be to develop funds in the area from corporate and private donours, grants and events.

Tower was already settling into his role, confirming the society had the Pet-i-Cure event coming up Nov. 22, where funds from professional pet nail trims would go toward the Humane Society.

“It all stems from the people and is rooted in the people that have been there year after year, from Tracey Keith (executive director) right on down to all of the volunteers,” said Tower of CAHS. “They take in over a thousand animals a year and you just ask yourself, where would those animals be without the Cochrane Humane Society? Not in a pleasant place.”
