A trip to Los Cabos in celebration of their 10 year anniversary soon became a whirlwind of devastation.
Cochrane residents Lacey and Lee Fowler arrived in Mexico for their first vacation as a couple in more than a decade. Not even 24 hours into their getaway Lee suffered a stroke. He was rushed to hospital and placed in the ICU. Lacey called her parents and they flew out to Mexico to offer their assistance.
Lee spent 10 long days in a sedated coma until he and Lacey were transferred home. When they arrived, Lee was transported to the ICU at the Foothills Medical Centre. Still sedated and on a ventilator to keep him breathing, his family and friends were informed it was time to say their goodbyes.
Lee passed away on Thursday October 10. The father leaves behind his wife and their four young children, Quinn, Morganne, Owynne and Sloanne. Not only will the family be healing broken hearts, but many expenses are left on the shoulders of Lacey.
The family has issued a statement on behalf of Lacey's two brothers, Colby and Brady and two sister-in-laws, Amanda and Leanne:
"Someone said to me the other day in the midst of all of this that resonated with me. She said 'You always want to be on the giving end of things than on the receiving end because it is always easier to give.' That is so true. No one ever hopes to be in Lacey's position and nothing will bring Lee back, however with the support we have received and still hope to receive, it might make things a little easier for her and her young family. Thank you to the community of Cochrane for supporting a fellow Cochranite."
