Fatal Christmas Eve crash on Highway 1

Cochrane RCMP and EMS responded to a two-vehicle collision on Christmas Eve on Highway 1 at exit 651. One of the drivers, a 26-year-old male from Edmonton, died from his injuries. The RCMP are not releasing the names of those involved.

Cochrane RCMP and EMS responded to a two-vehicle collision on Christmas Eve on Highway 1 at exit 651.

One of the drivers, a 26-year-old male from Edmonton, died from his injuries. The RCMP are not releasing the names of those involved.

The crash was east of Highway 22 involving a white van and a gray car. The white van was going westbound when it crossed the centre meridian and drove into oncoming traffic. The van struck the car, injuring the two people inside.

The two occupants of the car required extrication by fire crews. The two were transported to Foothill Medical Centre by ambulance.

The driver of the car later died from his injuries on Dec. 28, while the passenger, a 25-year-old from Edmonton, was transported in non life-threatening condition.

The driver of the white van is a 35-year-old from Vancouver.

Cochrane RCMP say the incident is still under investigation.
