Fatal vehicle accident near Morley

A 34 year-old female from Morley was pronounced dead on the scene following a single-vehicle accident March 23 near Morley. Cochrane RCMP, fire and EMS responded to the accident at 12:30 a.m. east of Morley Road on a gravel road.

A 34 year-old female from Morley was pronounced dead on the scene following a single-vehicle accident March 23 near Morley.

Cochrane RCMP, fire and EMS responded to the accident at 12:30 a.m. east of Morley Road on a gravel road. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. Signs of alcohol were found at the scene and police believe it was a factor in the accident.

Local RCMP are asking any witnesses to come forward, as police are still seeking details of the accident. Anyone with information, call the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000.

Marijuana, crack-cocaine and brass knuckles were seized by Cochrane RCMP in a recent drug bust.

On March 21, Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of a potential drug transaction on Quigley Drive around 7:30 p.m., where the two suspects also had an altercation between each other.

The suspects were detained, when RCMP found 420 grams of marijuana, 32 grams of crack-cocaine and brass knuckles.

Joshua McMorland, 19, and a 15-year-old, both from Cochrane, were charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and numerous weapons offences. Both were released and are currently awaiting to appear in court.

What started as a rural property owner wanting to burn items on the farm turned into a grassfire west of Highway 22.

On March 22 Cochrane RCMP, Rocky View and Cochrane fire department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a grass fire northwest of Cochrane around 3:30 p.m. A person was burning items on the property when, due to dry conditions, the fire began to spread.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze but a barn and other items were burned. No people or animals were harmed in the fire.

Police and fire officials are again warning people to practise caution outdoors with the dry conditions.
