The man killed at the train tracks down town last weekend has been identified by relatives as Frank Pruden.
"Morley was always his home. He loved going for random walks amongst his random journeys and this happen to be his last on Friday the day he got hit," Lisa Bearspaw, Pruden's stepdaughter.
Originally from Edmonton, Pruden was said to be residing in Morley for the last 15 years.
"My mom is taking it hard ... She lost her companion; her best friend," said Lisa.
Emergency services responded to a fatal accident on the train tracks on Fifth Avenue near the Fas Gas at approximately 8:45 p.m. Friday night.
EMS on scene confirmed a 49-year-old male pedestrian was killed when he was struck by the eastbound train while trying to cross the tracks. A police report states the man was trying to cross while the crossing lights and the crossing arms were active.
"Ultimately, the crew determined that he was deceased and the scene has been left in care for RCMP for now," said Stuart Brideaux, spokesperson for AHS Emergency Services.
CP rail is at the head of the investigation.
No further details on the incident are available.
The family has put together a GoFund me page to help with the funeral costs.
Family members wrote on the page that Pudden "was the one to give with what he had," and that he was a volunteer at the Morley food bank.
"He left behind so many step daughters, step sons, step grand children," Lisa said. "He always had random jokes and random sayings he would say to make you laugh. Him being on a low income he would always help us as much as he could even though he didn't have much to give. If he seen us post the gofund me page he would ask us to delete it."
"Frank never was a person to argue he was so kind in every way," said Tasha Bearspaw, also his stepdaughter. "We just want a proper burial him for Frank and to have a wake."
"He leaves behind his stepchildren which is us, we are all hurt."
