With two advance polls down and two to go, town officials are reminding Cochranites that every vote counts and that the town is hopeful the four advance polls will help bring up the voter turnout from an abysmal 33 per cent in 2013.

According to Jaylene Knight, returning officer for the election, there was an 85 per cent increase in the first advance poll, held last Saturday, when compared to the one in the last election.

The first advance poll four years ago drew 215 voters. The Oct. 7 advance poll held at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC) resulted in 398 cast ballots.

The second took place last night and the third will take place tonight from 4-8 p.m. – both at the Cochrane RancheHouse.

The final advance poll will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the pool entrance of SLSFSC.

Knight said special ballot requests are up by three times from the previous election, but that those have to be returned to the town offices by 4:30 p.m. on election day, Oct. 16.

The town wishes to remind voters with a postal box listed on their identification to bring a second piece of ID that confirms physical address – such as a property tax bill or to utility bill.

Monday polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Unofficial election results are anticipated to be released between 8:30-9 p.m. in council chambers on election day.
