Tanner Sorenson, left, Owen Taylor, Dano Stephens, Joal Taylor, Gary Taylor, unknown, and Mark Groeneveld worked together to set up what was a really fun day for a lot of families from Cochrane on Aug. 27. The group took it upon themselves to head up to Bow Ridge with a massive sheet of plastic and a large container full of water to create a one-day community slip and slide.

Talk about going out with a splash.

While last weekend’s weather was in line with the rest of summer 2016 – mediocre at best – the first (annual?) Bow Ridge Slip and Slide event went off without a hitch, thanks to the effort of a handful of locals wanting to show Cochrane kids a great time.

“We decided to grab some poly and go for it,” said organizer Gary Taylor, who was assisted by his sons, 16-year-old Owen and 18-year-old Joal, as well as Jackson Triggs-Lay.

Some 200 feet of thick poly, a big water tank and some dish soap was a recipe for successful entertainment for some 75 kids who showed up at the Bow Ridge sledding hill for summer sliding.

“The kids that missed it were so disappointed,” said Taylor. “We would love to continue this and make it a tradition next year.”

Parents interested in rolling up their sleeves for a possible slip and slide event next year can get in touch with Taylor et al. at ‘Bow Ridge Slip and Slide’ on Facebook.
