The Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS) is thrilled with the recent news that the local shelter garnered first place as ‘Best Charitable Organization’ in the Eagle’s ‘Best of Cochrane’ contest.

“We really appreciate the support of the community — it’s nice to be recognized,” said executive director, Tracy Keith.

Since 1998, the CAHS has been providing refuge for Cochrane and area animals, namely dogs and cats, and connecting abandoned, surrendered and rehabilitated pets with suitable, loving homes.

“Everything we do, we’re community-minded…it’s cool being a grassroots organization that’s always been so community-driven.”

As the shelter continues to brim with dogs, cats and rabbits the spring season has brought on an influx of puppies and kittens in search of their forever homes.

Keith said the summer is shaping up to be busy, with kids camps getting ready to launch, the 11th Annual Golf Classic tourney at The Links of GlenEagles Aug. 14 (which still has space for golfers) and a variety of ongoing programs and events.

Those interested in volunteering with the local shelter or in participating in upcoming events can visit cochranehumane.ca for more info or contact the shelter at 403-932-2072 for details.
