The Chinook Film Group will be bringing a little Scandinavian flavour to its next movie screening Nov. 19, showing a Swedish film called Force Majeure, directed by Ruben östlund.

It has been receiving rave reviews internationally and is going to be Sweden's Academy Awards submission this year.

“When I saw it, it had a lasting effect, ” said Murray Mitchell, the programmer of the Chinook Film Group. “The conversational aspect of it afterward will be very interesting between married couples and those with significant others. ”

Mitchell said the less you knew about the film before hand, the better, and he assured that this would only add to the post-film discussion. He did add that it takes place on a ski hill - just in time for the winter season here in Cochrane.

Mitchell said he was introduced to the film by a contact at Film Circuit, a group that distributes films that may otherwise not be shown in smaller communities.

The film was also screened at Calgary International Film Fest and Toronto International Film Fest.

Mitchell said this would be their last screening before Christmas and although they hadn't chosen a film yet for the next showing in January, he was leaning towards a documentary.

Tickets for the film are $10 and available at Java Jamboree and Tea… and Other Things. For more information visit facebook.com/ChinookFilmGroup.
