Women are invited to try a free BooTy program class at the Spray Lake Sawmill Family Sports Centre on May 28.

“We’ll start running the class regularly on June 4 but we’re going to bring a free hour and a half class to start,” explained Shawna Kerr-Smith, events and marketing coordinator with the centre.

Canmore resident Tara Newbigging combines high-intensity fitness moves with powerful music and movement creating a perfect balance between intensity and fun run for the workout.

“The program is run in various other towns across Canada, Canmore and Calgary also have it though … so we want to run this free event to give people a chance to experience it before they pay for it,” Kerr-Smith said.

A water bottle and yoga mat are the only equipment needed for the class, which is done barefoot. It is open for girls and women aged 12 years and up, though adult supervision is required for girls aged 12 to 16 years old.

“People I know that have taken the class love it, Tara is very upbeat and energetic.”
