The second annual Hair of the Dog fundraiser for the Cochrane & Area Humane Society (CAHS), founded by Cochranite Kendra Watt, promises to not only help animals but also be a great time.

The driving force behind the fundraiser was Watt’s late dog, Osa, and her “need” to give back to the community.

“I grew up in a very community-minded family and my parents raised us to always be involved and give back to your community, so I innately understand the important of community involvement,” Watt explained in an email.

With the help of Watt’s two close friends Kari Hancock and Phonsie Corcoran, the three organized the two-day event last year, raising $15,000 for the shelter.

“CAHS is not only a worthy organization, it is a well run and well respected charity,” Watt said.

“It relies on community support but it goes beyond geography, they will help any other animal welfare organization in any way they can, the bottom line being the welfare of all animals.”

Organizers are inviting everyone interested to go for a night out of fun, while helping a local charity.

“Apart from benefitting CAHS, this is a truly spectacular night out … I expect that everyone who attended last year will attest to the fun they had,” Watt said.

The Texas Gate will host Hair of the Dog April 22 and 23. Tickets are $40 per person, which includes a cod dinner and live music from Atlantic Storm. There will also be a 50/50 draw, silent auctions, drink specials and draws throughout the night. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the live entertainment starts at 8 p.m

For tickets call the shelter at 403-932-2072 or call Kendra Watt at 403-437-4041.
