With part of the Ghost Valley soon scheduled for timber harvest, members of the Ghost community are holding a potluck and trail riding event this Saturday (Sept. 26) from 4:30-8 p.m. at a local ranch to ‘enjoy the landscape before logging begins.’

“This is an area that will be significantly impacted by the upcoming harvest plan to the point that the area will not look the same at all afterwards,” Sharon Macdonald, who’s been heavily involved with conservation efforts in the valley, said.

The South B9 quota area (about an hour west of Cochrane) will soon see logging crews this fall, and Macdonald said community members wanted to appreciate the landscape before that period.

“It will really change the landscape in that area so this is a chance for the community and those that love the Ghost Valley to gather and enjoy this beautiful area.”

People will be able to book trail rides through Saddle Peak Trail Rides followed by the potluck, which will feature roast beef provided by Dave and Jacquie Richards of Saddle Peak. Live music will be provided by Willow Balkwill and Lara West Kruger.

To pre-book a trail ride, email Jacquie at [email protected], and then arrive at 2:30 p.m. that day. A one-hour ride is $45 and 1.5 hours is $55.

Organizers are requesting people RSVP their attendance via email at [email protected].
