Glenbow Elementary School is inviting the public to their Aboriginal Celebration Day — an afternoon of dance, stories and friendship.
The powwow is set to begin at roughly 12:30 p.m. Weather permitting, the event will be held outside; otherwise it will get underway in the school’s gym.
“This powwow is such a great way to build bridges between communities,” said Colleen Heschl-Ball, the school’s native liaison. “Children, adults — everyone will be up and dancing together.
Heschl-Ball said the school’s Roots and Wings program would be presenting $700 to the Iyahrhe Nakoda Food Bank Society. The sizeable donation was collected from the proceeds of the program’s Warrior Paint project — a set of colourful greeting cards created from children’s artwork.
To date, the project has donated nearly $3,000 to the Morley food bank.
The greeting cards will be offered for purchase at the school during the powwow.
In the community, the cards can be bought at Save-on-Foods, Mark’s No Frills and Trailblazers.
