The traditional barn dance set to kick off in the summer is currently seeking sponsors and entertainment for the inaugural event.

Cochranite Todd Simmer said he was inspired to organize the event because he wanted to do something great for the town.

“I came to the realization that I wanted to something more local and do our part in giving back to a community that I love – there is no money to be made here. I am doing it so we can build our community,” Simmer said.

Organizers are seeking support for the event with different sponsorship packages. Those include Local Support, which includes business cards in the program; Boots for Roots including an ad in the program and a banner at the event; and Building Communities 2 Steps at a Time, including program ad, supplied banner at the event, logo in newspaper ads and recognition throughout the day during the event.

Any left over money will go toward building a playground at Holy Spirit Elementary School. Organizers are hopeful the barn dance will turn into an annual event with a new benefactor every year.

“The day is meant to be a great day to spend with family – I want everyone to come out and have some good old fashion fun,” Simmer said.

Organizers are also seeking local talent to keep the stage busy throughout the course of the day - auditions to be announced or call the organizers for more information.

The day will be spilt in two parts, more family-focused during the day and adult activities for the afternoon/evening. The ‘Tribute to Cochrane Kids’ goes from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a kids zone for $15 per child that includes a lunch and old thyme candy store concession on the grounds.

Cocktail hour then starts at 3 p.m., as organizers will set up and get ready for the dinner, silent auction and live entertainment to start at 4 p.m. The dance then kicks off at 8 p.m. with dinner and dance tickets for $50, and dance only tickets $25 per person or $60 for the family.

Organizers are also asking any local western and historical associations that want to partner to showcase the strength of the community to contact Simmer.

The inaugural old fashion Cochrane barn dance will kick off June 25 at the Cochrane Old Arena.
