“From the store to your door” is now available in Cochrane. Grocery Link, the delivery service, started dropping groceries on local doorsteps beginning Jan. 22.

“We are rolling now – it is just a matter of getting the word out there,” said Paul Hutlet, founder/president of Grocery Link. “So far we have gotten a good response.”

Grocery Link offers grocery shopping, prescription pickup, delivery services, along with other educational and sponsorship programs.

Grocery Link has been in development for more than two and a half years with headquarters in Calgary. In a recent press release, the president announced that the services have been launched throughout Calgary and surrounding areas, including Cochrane, Airdrie, Chestermere, Strathmore, and Okotoks.

“We are ready to accept registration,” Hulet said.

The delivery service is explained on the company’s website in five simple steps:

– Sign up, select your service, pick a convenient schedule, place your order, and wait for delivery.

The programs also being offered include a grocery economics and food waste reduction program designed to educate youth and families about the economics of groceries and the relationship groceries and food waste have on the environment.

Within the program, there will be a family contest for members to have the opportunity to enroll in a 12-week program to work with Grocery Link consultants to save money, increase family time and reduce household food waste. The goal is to reduce household food waste by 50 per cent, and to provide a minimum “net zero cost service,” with prizes to be awarded to the top three finalists. There will also be a school contest, where the company will be launching and sponsoring the inaugural Alberta School Food Waste Reduction Fair. The company will be challenging schools from kindergarten to Grade 9 to create the a research project on the topic of food waste and its effects on the environment.

The top 30 finalists and top three finalist’s schools will receive prizes.

Another program will be the Grocery Link Sponsorship Program, where people can nominate a person in need and become a sponsor for as little as $5. For every $76 raised, one nominated person will receive free weekly service for a month. For every $1,000 raised, the president will donate $100 to a local food bank.
