An area contractor who has already pleaded guilty to violations of the province’s Fair Trading Act is due back in court Oct. 16.

It’s expected a new sentencing date will be set for Kieron Warren.

Warren, who resides in Redwood Meadows, pleaded guilty in July to five charges: three counts of operating as a contractor without a pre-paid contractor’s licence and two counts of failing to provide a refund after a customer cancelled a contract.

Warren was originally scheduled to be sentenced in Calgary Oct. 2, but appeared in court with a new lawyer, Sean Fitzgerald, who told court he had not formally retained by Warren.

The judge granted Fitzgerald more time to review material.

The case stems from incidents that date back to 2007 and 2008 when Warren operated under the business name Hillcrest Renovations.

According to court documents, Warren also filed for bankruptcy in 2010 listing nearly $1 million in debts to 13 creditors, one of which was the Canada Revenue Agency.

Warren is currently under investigation by Service Alberta for allegedly defrauding several families of an estimated $400,000 over the past year-and-a-half under a new company, KREATE Cabinets.
