Cochrane pet owners are being asked to open their hearts, and wallets, to show support for their furry friends this month.

Global Pet Foods will be hosting the annual Show Us Your Heart fundraiser starting tomorrow, Feb. 12, asking animal lovers to donate any amount, as little as $1, when visiting the store with all the proceeds to go to the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.

“We really believe in giving back to our community. It is because of our community that we’ve been so successful and the best way we can give back is through these different fundraising events,” said Fiona Sharman, owner of local Global Pet Foods. “We’ve chosen Cochrane and Area Humane Society because they are always in need of help and they are always helping animals in Cochrane and surrounding areas.”

Funds raised help local shelter animals like Romeo. Rescued from Saskatchewan, Romeo went to the Cochrane & Area Humane Society suffering from severe mange, affecting different areas of his body and the majority of his face. With the help from the local shelter and his foster family, Romeo has slowly but surely been healing and now is awaiting his forever home.

Global Pet Foods owners and the manager have also donated a Roomba vacuum to raffle off, with all monies collected to go towards the fundraiser.

“This is about supporting our local shelter – it is the only shelter in town and the more monies we get by donation, the more money we will be able to match and give them,” said Christine Sharman, Global Pet Foods manager.

Since the initiation of the campaign 10 years ago, over $1 million has been raised to help care for homeless animals all across Canada. The local store’s fundraising goal is $5,000 by the end of the campaign.

The fundraiser will run from Feb. 12-28 at the local Global Pet Foods store. People can donate as little as $1 and with each donation received Global Pet Foods will also donate $1. Individuals can also purchase a paper heart for $5 and Global Pet Foods will donate $1 and include 10 Air Miles Bonus Miles.

Animal lovers and pet owners can donate monies at any Global Pet Foods store across Canada. The local store is located at 320 1 St. W, Cochrane.
