There is a high possibility of seeing the northern lights throughout Alberta tonight.
The National Oceanic and Atmopsheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center forecasts the visibility of the northern lights, which are also known as aurora.
It expects active northern lights over much of Alberta on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, and says they could extend all the way south to the province’s border with the United States.
Information on the center’s website says a factor in determining the intensity of northern lights is indicated by a Kp index, which goes from zero to nine.
Tonight’s Kp index is forecast to be seven, and the center says the lights can be “quite bright and active” at that level.
They say aurora is best viewed between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. away from city lights.
